How to Play Would You Rather: Complete Guide

Everything you need to know about playing Would You Rather - rules, variations, tips, and how to come up with great questions.

Would You Rather is one of the simplest yet most engaging games ever created. No equipment needed, works with any group size, and guarantees interesting conversations.

Basic Rules

The rules couldn't be simpler:

  1. Someone asks a "Would you rather..." question with two options
  2. Everyone chooses one option
  3. Players explain their reasoning (optional but fun)
  4. Next person asks a question

That's it. No winners, no losers, just good conversation.

The Golden Rule

Both options should be genuinely difficult to choose between.

A good Would You Rather question splits the room roughly 50/50. If everyone picks the same answer, the question needs work.

Types of Questions

Preference questions: Would you rather have pizza or tacos for every meal?

Superpower questions: Would you rather fly or be invisible?

Philosophical questions: Would you rather know how you die or when you die?

Silly questions: Would you rather have spaghetti hair or sweaty maple syrup?

Scenario questions: Would you rather fight 100 duck-sized horses or 1 horse-sized duck?
